Biography
Lindsay Fitz-Patrick Grant (born 1 November 1964) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis politician, lawyer and businessman. He served as Leader of the People’s Action Movement until his resignation in July 2012.
Education
He was educated first at the George Moody Stuart School commonly known as Factory School.. He then went to the Basseterre Junior High School, Park Range then entered the 3rd form of the Basseterre High School. After completing secondary schooling at the Basseterre High School in 1981 he entered the sixth form of the Basseterre High graduating from this institution in 1983.
He worked on Springfield Egg Farm for one year and then left to study law at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in 1985. In 1988 he graduated from the Cave Hill campus UWI, with a Bachelor of Law with Upper Second Class Honours. After graduating from this university in Barbados, he journeyed to Jamaica to attend the Norman Manley Law School, where he successfully completed his Legal Education Certificate (LEC) in 1990. In 1990 Lindsay then left Jamaica to attend the prestigious Harvard Law School in Boston, Massachusetts. There he read law again, this time to specialize in the area of Corporate Law, with a further specialty in Banking and Finance.
Political Career
Mr. Grant has had a long and varied political career and has held many positions in the People’s Action Movement. He was Secretary, Chairman and Political leader over a 20 year period within the party. After being at the helm as political leader of the PAM for 12 years, he resigned from the position in 2012. He was officially appointed as a Cabinet Member followin the 2015 elections.
Career outside politics
Mr. Grant has been a practicing lawyer for the past 25 years, specializing in corporate and commercial law. He is a senior partner in the firm Grant, Powell & Co., a position from which he is currently on sabbatical, in order to fulfill his role in the new Unity government administration. He began his career in the firm Veira & Grant and later became a senior partner in the firm Lindsay Grant & Co.A member of the Board of Directors for a variety of private companies, Mr. Grant is also a member of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. In addition, he was a member of the leeward Island Cricket Board and a former president of the St. Kitts Cricket Association. Previously, he was president of the St. Thomas Trinity Football Association and he has played on the St. Kitts & Nevis National Table Tennis team, representing the country at the Caribbean Championships in Santo Domingo.
Personal Life
Married to Wendy Morton Grant since 1994, Mr. Grant and his wife are the proud parents of two children. His son Jaleel Grant attends the University of Toronto studying computer science while Kamau Grant attends the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC). Mr. Grant enjoys playing cricket, football and table tennis as well as listening to reggae and jazz music.
