Biography

EUGENE HAMILTON, CLU, FLMI, ACS, AIAA, AIRC

Eugene Hamilton was born in Water Works, Cayon on the 7th of September 1953.

Education

He has a sterling record of academic achievement, which began at the Cayon All-Age School from which he graduated at the top of his class. He pursued further education from the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA), Hartford, Connecticut, USA and the Life Management Institute, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, obtaining Certificates in Management and Marketing. He later attended the Administrative Staff College of India and the National Training Institute in Malaysia where he gained a Strategic Management Certificate for Senior Managers. He qualified as a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and has since obtained further qualifications in Management (AIAA) and Regulatory Compliance (AIRC). He is also qualified as a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and is the Moderator and Examiner for students pursuing Insurance education administered by the American College for over a decade.

Political Career

Presently, Eugene serves as the Minister of Ministry of Agriculture, Health, National Health Insurance, Human Settlement, Community Development, Gender Affairs, Social Services, Cooperatives and Lands.

Career outside politics

Eugene has a wealth of professional work experience, which includes:

  1. Teaching at his Alma Mater;
  2. Teller at SKNA National Bank;
  3. Debit Manager/Agent; Assistant Manager/Staff Manager; and Manager of British American Insurance Company Limited;
  4. Marketing Manager; Claims Manager; Assistant General Manager; and General Manager & Principal Officer of the National Caribbean Insurance Company Limited.

He later rejoined British American Insurance Company Limited as the Manager from 1996 before becoming a member of parliament following the general elections of 2010

Eugene also served as:

  1. Chairman of the Insurance Industry Forum on Rates, Taxes and Insurance;
  2. Member of the Capital Market Development Committee;
  3. Member/Liaison Officer of the Coordinating Committee for the13th Annual LIMRA Caribbean Conference.
  4. Manager of the Annual Conference Committee of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean

A consistent annual qualifier to the Million Dollar Round Table which is the world’s most prestigious gathering of Insurance professionals

A consistent annual qualifier to his Company’s annual Convention.

During 1981–1995 he served as Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis. He also served as a member of the Electoral

Commission of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis 1989 – 2000. Secretary to the Board of the National Caribbean Insurance Co. Ltd 1991 – 1995

Despite his demanding schedule, Eugene Hamilton has always contributed to the development of his Nation.

He was Chairman of the St. Mary’s Park Committee and President of the Cayon Dance Movement. President of the Cayon Football Club and the Rural East Football Association. He was also the Manager of the Cayon 1st Division Football Team. He was himself an avid sportsman who captained his village Cricket and Football Teams and also represented his Cayon Community in both Football and Cricket.

He was responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive Health Insurance program covering for all Public Servants in St. Kitts and Nevis.
